Making a House a Home – Carpenter Apprentices in the Community

In September 2015, Carpenter Apprentices from the Twin Cities Training Center donated their time and skills toward a great community project. The Bluebird House is a Community Alternative Care home in Maple Grove, MN, that is managed by Homeward Bound which provides services to four severely disabled young men. The home had grown too small to properly care for them and more room was needed. Our carpenter apprentices teamed up with other trades to help frame an addition to the home that includes an expanded family room, bedroom, bathroom, laundry room and storage area. The project was completed by the end of 2015 and Homeward Bound hosted an Open House event for all project participants in February 2016.
