Re: Special Meeting
To All Members of Local 1488:
On behalf of North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, I would like to state that I am very sorry to hear about your loss of employment due to the closing of the Merrill Semco plant. We want to ensure you that Council staff and the Carpenter’s legal team are working vigorously to ensure that your rights are protected under state and federal laws and to ensure that all dislocated worker services are immediately accessible to you.
North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters will be holding a special meeting for the members of Local 1488 effected by the plant closing of Semco on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the Merrill Eagles Club, 1205 Lake Street, Merrill, WI 54452 at 4:00 P.M.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the effects of the closing, answer any questions you may have, provide updates on the status of any action being taken, and make sure resources are available for unemployed workers. Council staff have been working with other union employers from around the area. Two union employers have committed to attend the meeting and are currently seeking to hire employees and make immediate offers. There will also be leadership from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development present at the meeting. We have been working with the dislocated worker representative for the area. She has been invited to the meeting and can discuss dislocated worker assistance that may be available to you.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. If you have any questions prior to January 9, please contact me by email or phone listed below.
