United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC)

We are the Carpenters Union. Our mission is straightforward: To gain 70% market share in the construction industry. We provide better training, better performance and a better life for ourselves, our families and our communities.

The UBC dates back to 1881 when the UBC led the fight that changed American workplaces forever — the fight to create the 8-hour workday.

Today, we continue to lead the fight to make sure our members — and all construction professionals — earn the wages, benefits and working conditions they deserve in exchange for the skill and productivity they bring to the job.

We mobilize to make life better for all workers.

We promote and define industry standards such as job safety, prevailing wages, strong apprenticeship training and opportunities for career advancement. We fight for fair economic and trade policies at every level in the public and private sectors. We continue to expose unscrupulous developers and contractors who drag down area standards, exploit workers and cheat our communities. We proudly partner with union contractors to raise the standards of our industry, as well as the standard of living for all construction professionals.

Our union begin with you.

The UBC has nearly half of a million members organized into hundreds of Local Unions across the U.S. By belonging to a Local, members are able to connect with other members through social and volunteer events and have a voice in the direction of their Local. Locals play a direct role in guiding the direction of the Regional Council by electing delegates to represent the concerns of Locals. Through the Locals, our members stand together in our Regional Council to maximize the UBC’s strength and power.
