Locals 308 and 678 Members Compete in the River Runner Regatta Cardboard Race
Several apprentices and journeypersons from Carpenters Local 308 (Cedar Rapids, IA) and Carpenters Local 678 (Dubuque, IA) competed in the River Runner Regatta Cardboard Boat Race September 15 at Manchester Whitewater Park in Manchester, IA. The crew showcased their construction as well as artistic skills by building several cardboard vessels.
Originally scheduled for September 1, a bad storm forced the Regatta to be postponed several weeks. The apprentices and journeypersons performed admirably. Local 308 Apprentice Steph Hershey and Local 678 Apprentice Justin Weisler won first place in the two-person division and Local 308 Apprentice Jonny Gatto won second place in the individual division. Local 308 Journeyman Tommy Wycoff won “Best Sinking Boat.”
