Benefits

Medical Insurance

Coverage includes comprehensive medical and prescription drug coverage, plus dental and vision benefits. Eligible members pay no monthly premiums. 

Retirement

Most members can look forward to two types of retirement: A defined benefit pension and a defined contribution pension.

Life, Accidental Death and Long-Term Disability

As a member in good standing, you are eligible to receive Life and Long-term Disability insurance certified by MetLife. This benefit, covered by your dues.

Disability

In Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, the benefit pays up to $450 a week for up to 26 weeks. In Wisconsin, an “accident and sickness” benefit pays $450 a week for up to 26 weeks. 

Maternity Leave

Female members who are expecting or have recently given birth to a child are entitled to paid maternity leave benefits. This policy is available to all female members working under our benefit funds with the exception of members in our Industrial Locals.

Member Assistance

As a member in good standing, you may have free access to confidential referrals, counseling and advice on a range of issues when you feel you’re in over your head. The Regional Council’s member assistance plan offers counseling for medical, behavioral health and substance abuse.

We believe in the importance of lifelong learning. Our 16 training centers offer a year-round schedule of skill upgrades and industry certifications for journey-level workers at all stages in their careers.

New to carpentry? Begin a paid apprenticeship.

As a paid apprentice you will work next to skilled industry veterans for four years. During the years of learning on and off the job site, you will earn an hourly wage, a pension and additional fringe benefits.

Steps for Membership


GET HIRED

Get hired by a Signatory Contractor and have them submit a Letter of Intent specifying you are a new member apprentice to your nearest Training Center. Need help? Contact us at 651-379-0200.

APPRENTICESHIP AGREEMENT

Not applicable for jouney-level.

With proof of diploma or GED, sign in at the school and fill-out paperwork for your Apprenticeship Agreement.

MEMBER ORIENTATION

Attend the next orientation meeting to fill out new member paperwork, learn about benefits and local union information, and pay initiation fees and dues. 

START YOUR TRAINING

With your temporary work card, start working and training. You will receive your official work card in the mail.
