Lost Wages Assistance Program Available
Minnesota applied for and was granted approval by the federal government for the federal Lost Wages Assistance Program (LWA).
LWA is a short-term, emergency program. The Lost Wages Assistance Program is different from the previous, $600 CARES Act additional payment program that ended in July. LWA has different eligibility requirements that the CARES Act. Eligible UI recipients unemployed due to COVID-19 can receive up to an additional $300 per week funded through FEMA.
LWA benefits will be paid retroactively to those who have been unemployed since the $600 CARES Act benefit expired on July 26. Benefits will likely begin to be paid in the next week. Weekly benefits will be paid until federal funds run out which is anticipated to be in mid-September.
