Training Centers Close March-May

Training Centers Close March-May

March 17, 2020

Apprentices,

As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and in consultation with Midwestern District Vice President Mark McGriff, all training centers in North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters will be closed effective March 18, 2020 through May 3, 2020. In advance of May 3, 2020, we will review whether it is safe to reopen our training centers. If that date changes, it will be communicated out to everyone in advance.

This is not a decision that has been taken lightly. We know that temporarily closing our training centers has a major impact on apprentices, instructors, and families. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority and we have confidence that this is the proper precautionary course for all our training facilities. All training centers throughout the Midwestern District are also closing.

E-learning classes will be held as scheduled. If you are enrolled in e-learning courses, plan on participating as you would have prior to this notice. All scheduled in-person training during this time will be considered an excused absence and not count against the required one-week you have to reschedule. Following this closure, we will be working with all apprentices who need to reschedule training. Please feel free to reach out to your local training center if you have additional questions or do not get contacted to reschedule.

As a reminder, members who have their job sites closed as a result of the COVID-19 are eligible for unemployment insurance. If a member is out of work for an extended period of time due to COVID-19, he/she may be eligible for short-term disability under our health plan. Members are encouraged to contact their health plan for additional information regarding their coverages.

We understand that implementing these changes on short notice is challenging and disruptive, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. I will pass along any additional information as updates occur.

If you have any questions about the COVID-19 or NCSRCC’s preparedness, you can email info@ncsrcc.org. Together we can improve the safety of everyone.

Sincerely,

John G Raines
