Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent
State Approved Carpentry Apprenticeship and/or a Technical College Diploma/Degree Program Certificate
Five or more years of experience in commercial carpentry
Experience with finish carpentry
Knowledge of hardware function
Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, layouts, drawings, blueprints, and workorders.
Possession of, or agreement to purchase, a complete set of basic carpenter tools as specified in organized contract
Ability to lift, position, and carry at least 50 lbs.
Valid, state-issued driver's license
Basic proficiency with e-mail and web browsers
Willing and able to be on-call after hours on a rotating basis.
Ability to work outdoors under severe and varying weather conditions
Ability to breakdown and rebuild different hardware components which would include restroom equipment and door hardware

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Completion certificate from a state certified carpenter's apprenticeship program
Previous carpentry experience in an airport environment
Previous carpentry experience in large campus environment
Extensive mechanical aptitude
Familiarity with uniform building code and ADA requirements
Working knowledge of auto and tug door repair and maintenance

Position Summary
The Metropolitan Airports Commission is seeking full-time, year-round Carpenters. Responsible for the performance of skilled carpentry in the construction, maintenance, and repair of wooden structures, existing buildings and equipment. Duties include: the repair of furniture, cabinets, shelving doors and their associated hardware. The construction of scaffolding and the ability to shore-up concrete and set concrete forms. The installation of ceiling and floor systems which include suspension, concealed spline, computer, ceramic, vinyl and carpet. Knowledge of Gyro Tech automatic sliding doors. Follow instructions given orally, in the form of sketches or blueprints, or by a computerized maintenance management system. Responsible for supplying a complete set of basic carpenters’ tools.

JOB DUTIES

Installation of demountable office furniture
Remove and build partitions in remodeling work
Trim and finish remodeling and repair work
Construct door and window frames
Set doors and windows
Apply sheetrock to walls and ceilings
Install and repair different types of ceilings
Build concrete forms
Construct scaffolding
Construct cabinets and shelving
Apply Formica to cabinets, shelves and tables
Follow directions orally or from blueprints or sketches
Install and maintain bathroom partitions and accessories
Maintain and repair doors, door locks, operators and closers, hinges, panic bars and frames
Maintain and repair windows, window locks and frames
Make repairs to floors and floor coverings including carpet, vinyl, rubber and ceramic
Repair tables, chairs, cupboards, counters and other equipment
Make door tags, install signage and mass produce construction type flags
Assist other carpenters at other MAC locations
Sharpen, lubricate and repair tools used in the course of work
Exercise safety precautions in use of power tool
Experience with solid surface installation and repair
Perform all other duties as assigned
